휘슬 갤러리는 아트 바젤 홍콩 2024, 디스커버리즈 섹터에 사진작가 김경태와 참가한다. 작가는 그간 사물의 스케일을 수백 배 확대하여 전시 공간을 압도하는 건축적 이미지로 우리의 인지 방식에 혼란을 주었다. 작가가 사용하는 포커스 스태킹(Focus stacking)이라는 기법은 주로 작은 사물을 여러 초점으로 맞추어 촬영한 후 합성하여 의도한 모든 곳이 선명한 초점을 가지는 이미지로 완성하는 기술이다. 이는 가까운 곳에 있는 피사체를 촬영할 때 광학적으로 초점이 흐려지는 것을 극복하는 보편적인 방식이다.
김경태 작가가 아트 바젤 홍콩에서 선보이는 시리즈는 ‹Optical Sequence›로 육각 L 형태 렌치를 촬영한 것이다. 작가가 촬영한 렌치의 크기는 육각 대변의 치수가 1.5mm부터 10mm로 가장 작은 것을 기준 삼아 상대적인 크기를 가늠해 볼 수 있다.

For Art Basel Hong Kong 2024 Discoveries, Whistle will present Optical Sequence, featuring a new body of photographic installation by the Korean contemporary artist Kyoungtae Kim. Kim employs the method of focus stacking to explore modes of observation and human perception. Known for his meticulous and detailed close-up depictions of objects like rocks, nuts, books, and scale cubes, the artist adeptly captures their textures with astonishing precision.
