A Well seems like a large hole filled with water, but it is a strange reflection, with flowing water underneath. «The Well» presents Seung Yul Oh, and Kwangho Lee’s works that result from accumulated experience and memories, inducing both tension and harmony when reflected together. The two artist’s subject and method of work is seemingly contrasting but also coincide in their attempts at transforming forms.
Seung Yul Oh works from momentarily remembered or imagined aesthetic experiences. Artist twists the space unexpectedly at the moment the viewer conceives the work. Constructed by connecting joint like wood treated in varying volume, texture, and color, his new work Fractionation creates an illusion of legs of an enormous bird breaking through the ceiling and walls.
Kwangho Lee creates functional and nonfunctional objects through diverse research of materials. Plasticity Series is produced with opaque acryl often used in his furniture and lightings. The material is applied away from the usual frame of functionality, attempting deviation from its mechanically made line and form. Like hand-cut pieces of colored papers, these different forms of plates hang in puzzle-like layers. Original shapes and colors of each panel distort and transforms according to its placement.

우물은 물이 담겨져 있는 커다란 구멍처럼 보이지만 낯설게 비춰진 형상 아래 흐르는 물이 있다. «The Well»전은 오승열, 이광호의 축적된 경험과 기억이 만들어낸 결과물이 함께 반영되었을 때 생성되는 긴장감과 어울림의 관찰을 유도한다. 두 작가가 표현하는 주제와 작업방식은 지극히 상반되어 보이나 형태의 변화 시도 과정에서 드러나는 접점 또한 찾아 볼 수 있다.
오승열은 찰나에 기억되거나 상상되는 심미적 경험을 바탕으로 작업한다. 작가는 관람자가 시각적으로 작품을 의식하는 순간 예상치 못한 방식으로 공간을 비튼다. 신작 ‹Fractionation›는 반복적인 연마와 칠과정을 거친 각각 다른 부피와 질감, 색을 가진 나무들을 관절의 형태로 이어만든 작품으로 마치 아주 큰 새의 다리가 천장 또는 벽을 뚫고 나온 듯한 착각을 일으킨다.
이광호는 다양한 소재의 탐구를 통해 기능적이거나 비기능적인 창작물을 만든다. ‹Plasticity Series›는 작가가 만든 가구와 조명에 자주 사용되는 불투명 아크릴로 제작되었다. 기능성의 틀에서 벗어나 사용된 동일한 소재는 기계적으로 구현되는 선과 형태로부터 탈피를 시도하는 듯 보여진다. 마치 손으로 색종이를 오린듯한 다른 모양의 판들은 새로운 형태의 퍼즐처럼 겹겹이 걸린다. 각각의 판이 가진 기존의 형태나 색은 놓이는 위치에 따라 왜곡되거나 변형된다.
